Urine, commonly known as pee, is a waste product of our bodies that contains urea, a nitrogen-rich fertilizer used in agriculture nowadays. Although research has shown that pee can be used as fertilizer to improve crop growth, the logistics of collecting pee from every person in a city makes it impractical. Sounds very challenging. Figure 1. Artistic impression of a parallel pipe system for urine fertilizer. Luckily, there exist ways to produce big amounts of fertilizers that would save us from using our own pee.
I finally did the migration to Drupal 7 for the Footnotes module this weekend. See Release notes and project page for more information. With this release I also announced my intent to hand over the module to a new maintainer. It is almost precisely 5 years since Footnotes was created, for Drupal 4. The first version of Footnotes was created for this site, OpenLife. The first public release apparently was for Drupal 4.
Recent scientific, technological and political developments have changed so profoundly the world we live in that they sometimes seem to render philosophy obsolete. Yet, they have prompted new moral problems which can — and ought to — be addressed philosophically. This entertaining and approachable introduction to contemporary practical ethics dusts off the discipline by anchoring present-day concerns within the broader philosophical tradition. In 25 short chapters, renowned philosophers identify the issues at stake in a wide variety of topics ranging from global warming, genetic selection and industrial farming to plastic surgery and social media. They expose and deconstruct contemporary ethical debates and outline the main contending arguments, inviting the reader to exercise their critical thinking and make up their own mind.
